LifeSource is a non-profit foundation established in 2006 to fund healthcare-related projects, particularly in the field of pain medicine and its many social, legal, and political implications.  The organization’s first project is the " Zero Unintentional Deaths " campaign, developed to eliminate unintentional overdose deaths from prescription medication without compromising access to treatment of pain.

Mission:

To educate physicians, patients and communities on health issues (with an emphasis on pain-related, scientific and social issues), as well as fund and conduct research that will discover new solutions and hope for improved life.

Board Members and Staff:

BILL TOWNSEND, President and Co-Founder

Bill Townsend is CEO and co-founder of the Blue Source companies. Blue Source is the largest portfolio of greenhouse gas (ghg) emission reductions (ER) world-wide. He is also the co-founder and co-owner of seven energy or environmental business lines with sales peaking at over $1 billion per year. Mr. Townsend has held positions as president of Petro Source Carbon Company and was co-founder of The Petro Source Companies. He has also served on the Board of Directors of Clean Air Canada, Canada EMA, the Life@Work Companies, and K2, The Church. As Chairman and co-founder of LifeSource, Mr. Townsend is leading a national campaign to stop accidental deaths due to legally-prescribed drug.

LYNN R. WEBSTER, M.D., FACPM, FASAM, DIRECTOR AND CO-FOUNDER

Lynn Webster is cofounder and medical director of Lifetree Clinical Research in Salt Lake City, Utah.  Dr. Webster is interested in working with industry to develop safer and more effective therapies for chronic pain and addiction and is a leading researcher exploring the relationship of medications and sleep. He earned his medical degree from the University of Nebraska and completed his residency in anesthesiology at the University of Utah Medical. Dr. Webster is board certified in pain medicine and addiction medicine and has added qualifications in pain medicine from the American Society of Anesthesiologists. He lectures extensively on the subject of preventing opioid abuse and criminal diversion in chronic pain patients and has written more than 100 scientific abstracts and journal articles. He recently published a book entitled Avoiding Opioid Abuse While Managing Pain: A Guide for Practitioners. Dr. Webster is currently on the board of directors for the American Academy of Pain Medicine and was instrumental in launching the Utah chapter of the organization. He is a co-editor of Pain Medicine's section on opioids, substance abuse and addiction and serves as a reviewer for numerous peer reviewed journals. He was the interventional therapies section editor for Practical Pain Management for 2006 and 2007.

 

GREG SPENCER, SECRETARY

Greg Spencer is the president and co-founder of the Blue Source companies, bringing 25 years of transactional experience focused in corporate M&A, law, capital markets, and environmental and operational risk management. He is a member of the Utah and California Bar Associations and has BS and JD degrees from the University of Utah.  He presently serves on the Board of Mountain Life Church.  An avid mountain biker and skier, Mr. Spencer lives in Park City, Utah, with his wife and has three grown children.  

 

Derek Hoffman, Director of Operations 

Derek Hoffman is the Director of Operations for LifeSource. His background includes political research and event planning. He has worked for Utah House of Representatives, the Campaign Legal Center in Washington, D.C., the University of Utah and Electronic Arts. Derek graduated from the University of Utah with a bachelors degree in Political Science and a Certificate in Criminal Justice Studies.
