Methadone Dangers.

According to the Utah Health Department, Methadone is the number one drug overdose killer in Utah, beating out cocaine and heroin. Dr. Lynn Webster initiated the Zero Unintentional Deaths campaign to combat the astounding percentage of methadone-related overdose deaths,.

“What I’m trying to do is educate physicians about the unique differences of methadone from all of the other opioids, how it’s metabolized, how it’s distributed, how it affects bodies, and how we need to prescribe it,” says Dr. Webster. “Some patients, some physicians want to help you with your pain, you want to help yourself with the pain, and so you have a tendency to take a little extra to get on top of the pain.  But you cannot.  You cannot make that assumption.  If you do as a physician who is prescribing it or a patient who is consuming it, it could be lethal.”
