National Legislation

One of the biggest obstacles we have in our mission to eliminate overdose deaths is that the best evidence available on the subject is insufficient.  We need reliable, scientific data in order to research and identify the root cause(s) of overdose deaths, but national data are not available, because there is no consistent method to report overdose deaths for all 50 states. Because of the variance among states, a national database that records specific and standardized data of overdose-related deaths is necessary to fully understand and combat these deaths.  The information provided by the database would be invaluable for researchers to study patterns and then develop solutions.

We need federal legislative backing to create this important database. Please use the links below to identify and contact your Senators and Representatives to encourage their support of a national overdose deaths database.
